Vatican City is a separate soverign state within Rome, and home to St. Peter's Basilica and some of the world's most famous art. I am not a huge fan of art, but the thing that was the most spectacular of everything was the Sistine Chapel. The famous ceiling that was painted by Michaelangelo. He started painting it in 1500.
